Since the age of 16, Porto Seguro, a coastal gem in Bahia, Brazil, has been the backdrop of countless summers and unforgettable moments of my adolescence and early adulthood. It is there, amidst the sun-kissed shores and lively streets, that my family has a cherished vacation home. Today, living abroad, my visits have become less frequent, but the memories remain vivid and ever-present.
"Ethereal Echoes" is a photographic project that seeks to capture the essence of these treasured memories through the lens of black and white film photography. Utilizing both a 35mm and a 110mm camera, I have aimed to distill the nostalgic and almost dreamlike quality of my experiences in Porto Seguro. The choice of black and white film lends the images a timeless, ethereal quality, evoking the hazy recollections of youth and the passage of time.
Porto Seguro is renowned for its bustling tourism, dynamic nightlife, and festive atmosphere. These elements, combined with the serene beauty of its coastal landscape, create a unique juxtaposition that I have endeavored to encapsulate in my photographs. Each image reflects a personal narrative, a fragment of a story woven into the fabric of this enchanting city.
Through "Ethereal Echoes," I invite viewers to step into my world, to experience the interplay of light and shadow, and to feel the intangible connection between past and present. This project is a tribute to the fleeting yet enduring nature of memories, a visual homage to a place that has profoundly shaped who I am.
