What remains of a place when we can no longer return to it in the same way? "Ethereal Echoes" is a photographic project that seeks to answer this question by capturing the essence of memories through the lens of time.
Since the age of 16, Porto Seguro, Brazil, has been the backdrop of unforgettable moments of my late adolescence. However, the impermanence of life is ever present, and each new visit is a reminder that time does not rewind. The city I remember for its festive atmosphere now offers calm and relaxing afternoons. What looked like a clear metaphor for aging: before a teenager seeking fun, now an adult looking for peace.
By revisiting images taken in 2013, using both a Diana Mini 35mm and a Diana Baby 110, I have traced the intangible connection between the grainy crowded memories and the perception of a sharp serene present. In a tribute to the fleeting nature of memories, I have found the ever-present coexistence of both realities, realizing that neither the place nor the memory changed. I did.
